Hyderabad, March 29: Hyderabad witnessed a large protest against the US-Israel strikes on Iran, with political leaders and civil society groups raising concerns over the situation. Hyderabad District Congress Committee (DCC) President Syed Khalid Saifullah led the demonstration and criticised the response of the Central government.
The protest began at Charminar, where hundreds gathered before marching to Exhibition Grounds in Nampally. Participants from various political parties and organisations joined the rally. The event later turned into a public meeting where speakers discussed the conflict and its wider impact.
Addressing the gathering, Saifullah strongly condemned the actions of the United States and Israel. He alleged that the strikes caused significant civilian casualties, including the deaths of over 100 schoolchildren in an air strike. He described the situation as a dangerous escalation involving powerful nations. He also warned that the conflict could affect global peace and stability.
Meanwhile, Saifullah criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central government for their response. He stated that the government had not condemned the reported civilian deaths caused by the US-Israel strikes, while reacting to Iran’s actions. He said this showed an inconsistent and biased foreign policy stance. Therefore, he stressed that India should adopt a principled and independent approach in international matters.
He also highlighted concerns about Indian expatriates in the Gulf region. He noted that over one crore Indians living there could face risks due to rising tensions in West Asia. He said these expatriates send nearly 4 billion US dollars annually to India, contributing significantly to the economy. Therefore, he stressed that their safety must be a priority.
In addition, Saifullah raised concerns about domestic economic issues. He alleged that Central policies have led to fuel and gas shortages. He also claimed that rising costs have affected daily life, citing increases in prices of common items such as food products.
Finally, he urged the government to review its foreign policy and take a clear stand against what he termed unjust aggression. He called for diplomatic efforts to restore peace and protect civilians. The protest ended with participants demanding accountability and a stronger position from India on global conflicts.
