Chennai, August 20: The Vande Bharat train has operated at 100 kmph on the world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab River.
The Railway Ministry approved higher speeds on the Katra to Banihal rail section in Jammu and Kashmir.
The revised limit allows trains to run at up to 100 kmph across the 111 km broad gauge section.
Vande Bharat Speed Boosts Kashmir Connectivity
Earlier, trains could run at 85 kmph between Katra and Sangaldan. The limit was 75 kmph between Sangaldan and Banihal.
Northern Railway said the speed increase followed checks on all required safety conditions.
Meanwhile, the higher speed is expected to reduce travel time between Katra and Banihal.
Officials said the move will improve passenger travel and strengthen connectivity across Jammu and Kashmir.
It could also support tourism, trade and economic activity in the region.
The Chenab Rail Bridge stands 359 metres above the riverbed. It is 35 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower.
The bridge is 1,315 metres long and uses a steel and concrete arch design.
It forms part of the Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla Rail Link project connecting Jammu with the Kashmir Valley.
