Hyderabad: Veteran Bollywood and Marathi actor Nana Patekar died at the age of 75 on Thursday, October 8, after suffering a severe cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa.
Patekar was found unconscious at his home in Dona Paula and was taken to Manipal Hospital. Doctors attempted to revive him with continuous CPR for around 45 minutes, but he could not be revived.
Dr Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, confirmed that Patekar was declared dead at 5:20 am. A medico-legal case has been registered, and a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
Nana Patekar Leaves Behind a Lasting Cinema Legacy
Born Vishwanath Patekar, Nana Patekar began his film career with Gaman in 1978. He went on to become one of the most respected actors in Hindi and Marathi cinema.
He delivered acclaimed performances in films including Parinda, Prahaar, Krantiveer, Agni Sakshi, Ab Tak Chhappan, Natsamrat and Welcome.
Patekar won three National Film Awards during his career. He received the Best Supporting Actor award for Parinda, the Best Actor award for Krantiveer and another Best Supporting Actor award for Agni Sakshi.
He also received four Filmfare Awards and two Maharashtra State Film Awards. In 2013, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri for his contribution to cinema and the arts.
Beyond acting, Patekar worked as a director and writer. He directed Prahaar: The Final Attack and remained active in both Hindi and Marathi cinema throughout his career.
His death marks the loss of one of Indian cinema’s most distinctive performers. Tributes from colleagues and admirers have begun pouring in following news of his death.
