Waqf Board: Activists Submit ‘Awaam Waqf Resolutions’ to Minister, Seek Urgent Reforms
Waqf Board | Hyderabad, Sept. 13: Civil society activists and representatives of various organizations have submitted the Awaam (People’s) Waqf Resolutions to Telangana Minorities Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar, raising concerns over irregularities, corruption, and mismanagement within the Telangana State Waqf Board.
During the meeting, the delegation highlighted multiple lapses in the functioning of the board.
They pointed out that the Waqf Board has been marred by irregular practices and allegations of corruption.
A key concern raised was the recent removal of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), who, despite holding a higher rank than Deputy Secretary, was relieved from duty citing provisions of a sub judice Act.
Activists argued that this decision has left the board without effective leadership at a critical time.
The delegation also questioned the qualifications of staff employed at the Waqf Board Office, alleging that many were underqualified while drawing high salaries.
They warned that such a setup undermines the very purpose of Waqf, an Islamic charitable institution intended to safeguard properties and serve beneficiaries.

The Awaam Waqf Resolutions were presented by Adv. Dr. Lubna Sarwath (Social & Environmental Activist, Indian National Congress), Prof. Anwar Khan (Jago Telangana), Nayeemullah Shareef (Waqf Protection Council), and Ahmed Hameeduddin (Movement for Peace & Justice).
The activists stressed the need for urgent intervention to protect Waqf properties and ensure that they are utilized transparently for the welfare of the community.
