Waqf Board: Dr. Safiullah Likely to Be In-Charge CEO?
- Minority Welfare Department set to forward his name amid High Court directives
Hyderabad, Sept. 12: The Telangana Minority Welfare Department is likely to forward the name of Dr. Mohammed Safiullah to the state government for appointment as the in-charge CEO of the Telangana State Waqf Board.
The development comes in the backdrop of recent High Court orders directing compliance with provisions under the new Act.
Waqf Board: Safiullah’s prior experience with the Board
Dr. Safiullah is currently serving as Director and Secretary of the Telangana Urdu Academy, a post he assumed on deputation from the Telangana State Power Generation Corporation (TGGENCO), where he was working as Deputy Secretary (Administration).
He is no stranger to the Waqf Board. From March to October 2021, he held the position of Deputy Chief Executive Officer for eight months before being removed by the then board.
His earlier stint in the institution is seen as an advantage in navigating the legal and administrative challenges currently facing the Waqf Board.
Responsibilities ahead amid pending verdict:
Dr. Safiullah will have significant responsibilities on his shoulders. Apart from routine administration, he may have to address inquiries into recent appointments and take up tasks such as strengthening Urdu promotion initiatives through the Academy.
If confirmed, His appointment is being closely watched as the Waqf Board continues to face scrutiny over governance and property management.
The timing is critical. The main writ appeal filed by former CEO Mohd Asadullah is still pending before the High Court, with a verdict expected soon.
The outcome of that case could further shape the future course of leadership in the Telangana Waqf Board.
This latest development underlines how judicial interventions continue to influence appointments and operations in the board, which plays a vital role in overseeing endowment properties and minority welfare activities across the state.
