Waqf Board | Hyderabad, April 21 (Maxim News): The Telangana Waqf Board failed to use government funds meant for toilet renovation and reconstruction, raising questions over delays and poor planning.
Hyderabad District Minorities Welfare Officer Mohd. Ilyas Ahmed said the government sanctioned Rs. 20 lakh in 2016 for toilet works at the Waqf Board office. However, officials did not complete the project even after several years.
Authorities transferred Rs. 10 lakh to the Engineering Department to begin the work. Yet, the department did not start the project. It also did not submit the required Utilisation Certificate.
Waqf Board Funds Delay Exposed
Because of this delay, officials could not release the remaining Rs. 10 lakh. The issue surfaced during a review of department accounts. Mohd. Ilyas Ahmed said the delay caused trouble for people who visit the Waqf Board office. He added that visitors continue to face problems due to poor toilet facilities.
Moreover, he asked the Engineering Department to begin the work at once. He also urged officials to submit the certificate quickly so the balance amount can be released.
Meanwhile, the long delay has drawn criticism from several quarters. Many people questioned why basic public facilities remained incomplete for years. Furthermore, the case has highlighted weak monitoring of sanctioned funds. It has also raised concerns over accountability in the departments involved.
To a question by IND Today Hyderabad District Collector Hari Chandana Dasari, assured to review the matter with Officials soon. They may also take steps to finish the pending renovation works without further delay. (Maxim News)
