Waqf Board Suggests Two for Full time CEO Post

Waqf Board | Hyderabad, Dec 1 | A Board Meeting has been conducted in Telangana State Waqf Board here on Thursday.

The meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Mohammed Masiullah Khan, the board suggested two names to the Government for appointment as full time CEO in compliance to the Orders of the High Court. The Board members preferred to keep the names of the suggested officers a top secret.

According to sources, Mohd Abdul Hameed, Special Joint Collector, Jangoan District and Mannan Farooqui, Joint Secretary, Law Department are the two contenders for the post of CEO.

To the astonishment of the media the board refrained from disclosing the outcome of the meeting in the pretext of ‘internal’ meeting. Since when has the meeting become internal and not worth informing to the general public. Is something fishy going on in the already tainted board!?

Kausar Mohiuddin, MLA, Z.H Javid, Syed Akbar Nizamuddin Hussaini Sabri, Abul Fateh Syed Bandagi Badesha Quadri, Dr. Syed Nisar Hussain, Malik Mohtasim Khan, were present in the meeting.

It is to mention here that the Telangana high court on November 1, 2022 directed the state government to appoint a full-time chief executive officer for the Waqf board. While dealing with a writ petition filed by Ibrahim Shareef Naib Qazi, Justice M Sudheer Kumar directed the state government to appoint a full-time CEO for the wakf board forthwith.

The petitioner in the writ petition pleaded to the court that despite the passing of a resolution on October 20 by the Waqf board seeking the removal of Shahnawaz Qasim from the CEO post, the officer remains to continue on the post. He also contended that the continuation of the present CEO despite the resolution is arbitrary, illegal, and unconstitutional and that the CEO shall not interfere with the functioning of the in-charge CEO.

Ibrahim Shareef, in his petition, pleaded to the court that as per section 23 of the Waqf Act, Shahnawaz Qasim, an IPS rank officer holding the DIG rank is not qualified to be appointed as CEO Waqf board and there are several Muslim officers of deputy secretary rank serving in the state Government may be appointed as a full-time CEO.
