Wine Shops and Bars to Remain Closed in Hyderabad on July 20 for Bonalu Festival

Hyderabad, July 19, 2025 (Maxim News): In view of the upcoming Bonalu festival, the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate has announced that all wine shops and bars, including those attached to restaurants (except bars in star hotels and registered clubs), will remain closed on July 20. This temporary closure applies to establishments falling under the LB Nagar, Malkajgiri, and Maheshwaram zones.

The directive was issued to ensure a peaceful and safe environment during the Bonalu celebrations, which witness large public gatherings, traditional processions, and heightened community activity.

Commissioner of Police G. Sudheer Babu urged shop owners and the public to cooperate with the enforcement.

“We request all stakeholders to adhere to the closure timings and support the police in maintaining law and order during this important cultural festival,” the Commissioner said in an official statement.

The Bonalu festival is one of Telangana’s most significant religious celebrations, especially in Hyderabad, where thousands of devotees participate in rituals and festivities in honor of Goddess Mahakali.

Authorities have increased surveillance and security arrangements across the city, particularly in areas with major Bonalu processions. The temporary liquor ban is a standard measure undertaken during major public events to prevent untoward incidents and ensure community safety.
