Traffic Chaos In Hyderabad As Onion Truck Overturned At Punjagutta
Hyderabad, July 19, 2025 (Maxim News): A major traffic jam was witnessed on the Punjagutta road on Saturday morning after a truck carrying onions overturned near the Punjagutta Metro Station, bringing vehicular movement to a grinding halt in one of Hyderabad’s busiest junctions.
According to officials, the truck was en route to the city’s wholesale market when it lost control and overturned, spilling hundreds of kilograms of onions across the road. The accident occurred during the early hours, but the impact was felt throughout the morning as commuters were stranded in long traffic snarls.
Traffic police rushed to the scene and began clearing the scattered onions and the overturned vehicle. Two lanes on the stretch were completely blocked, leading to diversions and delays. No casualties or serious injuries were reported.
“We responded immediately to ensure the truck was removed safely and the traffic resumed as quickly as possible. We advise commuters to avoid the Punjagutta route for a few hours,” said a traffic department official.
The incident also drew curious onlookers, further slowing down traffic. Videos and pictures of the scattered onions flooded social media platforms, sparking humor and frustration among city dwellers alike.
By late morning, authorities managed to partially restore traffic flow, though congestion continued for some time in surrounding areas such as Ameerpet, Somajiguda, and Banjara Hills.
