Speaking to the media, the SP said that the Maoists decided to lead a peaceful life with their family members and surrendered after learning about welfare and development measures being taken by the district police, CRPF 81 Bn and 141 Bn for tribals through ‘Operation Cheyutha‘.

Erapalli Revolutionary People’s Committee (RPC) militia commander Madivi Bhima, Errapalli RPC Chaitanya Natya Mandali (CNM) president Sodi Unga, and Kistaram area CNM commander Kovasi Nanda alias Srinu were among the 14 Maoists who surrendered to the police.

Rohith Raju stated that as part of an Athmeeya Sammelanam organised by the district police with the family members of the underground Maoist cadres and surrendered Maoists at Cherla in January, the police officials informed them about the benefits of surrendering before the police.  As a result, as many as 44 Maoists surrendered before the district police in the last two months.

The Maoists who surrendered on Monday realized that the banned CPI (Maoist) Party has lost support and trust among the tribal people for some time now because of its outdated ideologies, extortion, and obstruction of development of the agency area, he said.
