Hyderabad: In an novel initiative, the Rachakonda Police installed about 33 signage boards highlighting the glorious history of the Rachakonda Fort in the Rachakonda village. The initiative was sponsored by Infosys Foundation and the signages were setup at all the roads leading to the fort.

The Rachakonda village was adopted by the Rachakonda Police in 2016 and developmental activities are being taken up here since then.

“It a historical fort with great stories and fighters linked with it. Except the villagers and the surrounding areas, not many actually know about its importance. Even the number of tourists visiting the place is not much,” said Mahesh Bhagwat, Police Commissioner, Rachakonda.

“To create awareness about the fort among citizens and tourists, we put these signage,” he said
The signage which was inaugurated from Vijayawada Highway towards the Rachakonda Fort has been done at estimated cost of Rs 4.5 lakh by the Infosys Foundation, said Assistant Vice-President of Infosys, Das Gunalan, who is also the Vice-Chairman of the Rachakonda Society for Security Council.

“Rachakonda with its five hamlets has been adopted by the police four years ago and many development activities like 6 km road connecting the thandas to the mainstream with a bus to ply,” the Commissioner said adding a BSNL tower was also erected for mobile connectivity apart from medical camps for the tribal and police pre-recruitment training for 20 unemployed tribal youngsters.

The Rachakonda Fort is located in Rachakonda, Samsthan Narayanpur mandal in Yadadri-Bhongir District about 70 kms away from Hyderabad. It was built by King Recherla Anapotanayaka, son of Recherla Singamanayaka, who was a commander of the Kakatiya King Prataparudra in the 14th century AD.

One has to take the highway up to Choutuppal and take a diversion from there and proceed another 25 km to reach Rachakonda.
