IJU Welcomed Chhattisgarh Govt For Bringing Statute For Protection Of The Journalists

Chandigarh/Hyderabad,  March 24 (Maxim News):  The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) has welcomed the initiative of the Chhattisgarh government for bringing the statute for the protection of Journalists.

In a statement issued today, IJU President K. Sreenivas Reddy and Secretary General Balwinder Singh Jammu thanked the government headed by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel for passing “Chhattisgarh media persons Protection Bill 2023 in the State Assembly on March 22.

The IJU leaders said they are of the opinion that this Bill is more progressive than the one enacted by Maharashtra.  The Bill not only provides protection to Journalists but ensures protection for the properties of media persons and media institutions.

At a time when the Journalist fraternity has become more vulnerable with increasing attacks and killings by anti-social elements this bill is a welcome move, they averred.

The IJU leaders made an appeal to all state governments to take a leaf out of the book of Chhattisgarh and bring laws to ensure the protection of journalists whose work is vital for the sustenance of democracy. IJU President added.  (Maxim News)
