BRS, BJP Govts are playing with lives of poor farmers: Bhatti

· CLP leader slams BRS Govt for not enumeration the crop losses due to rains

Hyderabad, March 28: Telangana Congress Legislature Party leader Bhatti Vikramarka slammed the BRS Government in Telangana and the BJP Government at the Centre for their negligence towards the plight of over one lakh farmers affected by the recent unseasonal rains.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of his ‘Haath Se Haath Jodo Yatra’ People’s March, which entered its 13th Day on Tuesday, Bhatti Vikramarka questioned the government’s commitment to the farmers’ welfare.

Following his visit to the affected regions, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar announced a compensation of Rs. 10,000 per acre. Bhatti Vikramarka criticized this decision, arguing that without official teams surveying the damaged areas and providing a final report on crop losses, the relief package lacks a scientific basis. He pointed out that compensation should take into account the varying costs of cultivation, yield per acre, and income for different crops, such as paddy, maize, and mango.

Bhatti Vikramarka also accused CM KCR of using the compensation to cover up the absence of a crop insurance scheme in Telangana, which would have provided affected farmers with a larger relief package. He called on the BRS Government to implement a crop insurance policy to protect farmers from future losses due to natural disasters.

The CLP leader further criticized the BJP Government for not responding to crop losses caused by unseasonal rains. He noted that the conventional practice for assessing such losses involves the State Government sending an Agriculture, Revenue, and other departments’ team to assess damages, followed by a Central Government team for verification. Based on the actual losses, both governments would then contribute to the compensation. Bhatti Vikramarka claimed that this system had been in place for over six decades until the formation of Telangana.

Bhatti Vikramarka alleged that the BRS Government had not once in the past nine years sought compensation from the Centre for the thousands of crores in crop losses suffered by farmers. He accused CM KCR of bailing out the BJP Government by announcing that no damage report would be sent to the Centre while challenging him to make public the reports of crop losses submitted to the Centre in the last nine years. He also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of neglecting Telangana farmers by not addressing their losses over the past decade.

He claimed that BRS and BJP leaders were engaging in a blame game over compensation for affected farmers to divert attention. He criticized Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy for appearing clueless about crop losses, and Finance Minister Harish Rao for demanding BJP leaders, rather than their government at the Centre, pay an additional Rs. 10,000 per acre towards compensation. He argued that instead of having G2G (Government to Government) communication, BRS and BJP leaders were resorting to P2P (Party to Party) communication to mislead farmers.

The CLP leader demanded that the State Government expedite the enumeration of losses, submit a detailed report to the Centre, and seek compensation. He also urged the BJP Government to send a Central team to assess damages and announce appropriate compensation to help affected farmers.

Meanwhile, Bhatti Vikramarka condemned the BJP Government for serving an eviction notice to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. He said the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi as MP within 24 hours of his two-year sentencing by a Surat court in a defamation case, and the eviction notice for his official bungalow at 12 Tughlak Lane within two days of his disqualification strengthens the suspicion that everything is happening due to a larger conspiracy.
