More Than Rs 10 Cr Foreign Currency Seized At The Delhi Airport

Delhi/Hyderabad, July 22 (Maxim News): Customs officials seized foreign currency worth over Rs. 10 crores from three Tajik Nationals at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport.  Foreign currency was reportedly hidden in the shoes kept in the luggage.  In this incident that took place on July 21, the accused were stopped by the authorities while they were going to board to flight to Istanbul.

In this order, when their baggage was checked, the customs department issued a statement that foreign currency worth Rs. 10.6 crores (7.20 lakh dollars or 4.66 euros) was recovered from them.  On this occasion, officials disclosed that the foreign currency has been seized and further investigation will be conducted.

According to the customs department, this is the first time such a large amount of foreign currency has been smuggled through an airport in India.  However, customs officials said that one of the three persons detained by the authorities was a minor.  (Maxim News)
