Double-Decker Trains Back On The Scene

Hyderabad, Sept 10 (maxim News): With the Vande Bharat trains being a super success, the Railway Department is focussing on the double-decker trains which were branded as failures.  Occupancy ratio or double-decker trains which are coming one by one are expected to be re-tracked and successful.

Railways have introduced double-decker trains to run only during the daytime. So there was only a chair car in them.  They run at the same speed as normal superfast express trains.  At present, the super-fast trains running from Secunderabad to Tirupati take around 11 hours. As it is nighttime, passengers are traveling in super fast trains lying down, so they are not wasting time during the day.

But, as the double-decker trains have to travel at all hours of the day, a day’s time was wasted for the passengers.  Double-decker trains were introduced between Secunderabad-Tirupati and Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam as soon as they started.  People going to these two places feel like a day is wasted as they spend the whole day on the trains. As a result, their occupancy ratio reached 14 percent within a week.

As a result, the railway has canceled those two services.  Recently, Vande Bharat trains have been overcrowded even though they are running at the same time of day.  Their occupancy ratio is 110 percent to 120 percent.  As their speed is high, they reach their destination in a short time.  But, it is not possible to increase the speed of double-decker trains on all routes like Vande Bharat. With this, the railway is planning to introduce berths in them and turn them at night

It is reported that the Railways also intends to introduce double-decker trains in the passenger-cum-goods model in which passengers are transported simultaneously on the upper deck and goods on the lower deck.  An official said that the designs are being examined by the railway subsidiary RDSO.  Railways hopes to revive demand for double-decker trains.
