Bakrid Holiday In Telangana On June 17 Or 18

Hyderabad, June 3 (Maxim News): The Telangana government has declared a holiday for Bakrid, a festival that symbolizes sacrifice, The government has declared a holiday on June 17.  But Telangana is likely to change the Bakrid holiday because the festival of Bakrid is celebrated based on the sighting of the crescent moon.  If the crescent is seen on June 7, Eid will be celebrated on June 17, otherwise, Bakrid will be celebrated on June 18.

All the Eidgah and mosques in the city are decorated for the Bakrid festival.  Apart from Telangana, goats and sheep were brought to the city from Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and other states.  Tents are being set up in Mehdipatnam, Langar House Ring Road, Tolichowki, Jiyaguda, Amberpet, Kachiguda, Chadar Ghat, Afzal Ganj etc. A huge number of goats, sheep and rams were brought to the markets this time.

Special goats and rams sell for a huge price.  Traders who bring goats and sheep from Warangal, Jangaon and Ibrahimpatnam areas sell them in Ek Minar, Pathan Basti and Bholakpur areas of Musheerabad.  Here a goat is sold between Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 20,000.

Along with Bakrid, the Telangana government has declared a holiday for Eid-e-ghadir which falls on June 25.  Bakrid is celebrated on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, the 12th month of the Islamic Lunar calendar.  Celebration began after prayers in Mosques, Eidgah. (Maxim News)
