On Wednesday, Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi and Commissioner Amrapali Kata held a meeting with officials from the Medical Health, Entomology, and Sanitation Departments in the command control room of the GHMC headquarters.

During the meeting, Mayor Vijayalakshmi emphasized that several programs are conducted regularly throughout the city to prevent the spread of seasonal diseases and control mosquitoes. Given the ongoing rainy season, she stressed the importance of taking stringent measures to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, chickenpox, and others. She suggested that widespread awareness programs could significantly reduce these diseases and aid in mosquito control. With dengue prevalent in the city, medical and health department officials have been advised to educate the public on preventive measures. AMHOs are expected to perform their duties responsibly, and any negligence will result in action being taken. Sanitation management should be efficient, and push carts should be set up at garbage-prone points. Continuous monitoring of SFAs is essential, and CMHOs should oversee the performance of AMHOs.

The entomology officer was instructed to prioritize public health. GHMC is implementing all necessary measures to control mosquitoes and prevent disease spread. Citizens are also urged to maintain cleanliness.

Commissioner Amrapali Kata emphasized the need for coordinated efforts among authorities to reassure the public. She urged officials to work diligently and address any public complaints promptly. Strict measures should be implemented to prevent disease spread during the monsoon season. A special drive should be conducted to spray every room in all government and private schools, colleges, and hostels to prevent mosquitoes. Public awareness about seasonal diseases should be increased. Observing every Friday as a dry day, dedicating ten minutes to cleaning water reservoirs, garbage, empty bottles, cans, and other mosquito habitats at home is recommended. Groups of three or four students should be formed in every school and college as “warriors” to promote awareness about mosquito prevention and mosquito-borne diseases. Continuous awareness about dengue prevention and precautions is crucial.
