Bangladesh Violence: Several Flights to Dhaka Canceled

Delhi/Hyderabad, Aug 6 (Maxim News): Air India canceled a morning flight to Dhaka on Tuesday amid massive anti-government protests in Bangladesh. The neighboring country has plunged into uncertainty following extraordinary street protests over job quotas, forcing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to quit and flee.

IndiGo and Vistara also canceled all their flights to the Bangladesh capital on Tuesday, according to two officials. Vistara operates daily flights from Mumbai and three weekly services from Delhi to Dhaka.

Air India’s Response

An airline official stated that Air India canceled its morning flight to Dhaka and will decide later in the day whether to operate its evening flight to the Bangladesh capital. According to the schedule, the airline operates two daily flights to Dhaka from Delhi.

Given the emerging situation in Bangladesh, we have canceled the scheduled operation of our flights to and from Dhaka with immediate effect. We are continuously monitoring the situation and are extending support to our passengers with confirmed bookings for travel to and from Dhaka with a one-time waiver on rescheduling and cancellation charges,” an Air India spokesperson said in a statement.
