Hyderabad, Dec 18 (Maxim News): The Cyberabad Police, in collaboration with the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC), launched a significant awareness initiative under the project P.R.O.T.E.C.T. (Preventing Risks Online Through Education, Collaboration, and Training) on  December 17, 2024, at the Cyberabad CP Office Main Conference Hall.

Cyberabad CP Avinash Mohanty said & quot; Cybercrime has become one of the fastest-growing challenges in our society today, and it is a privilege for all of us to gather here to discuss solutions. Every year, cyber crimes are compounding at an alarming rate, and our investigations and efforts must also compound proportionately to tackle this menace.

With the launch of this initiative, Project P.R.O.T.E.C.T, we have the support of mainstream media, social media influencers, students, and the police. Their collective efforts in raising awareness about cybercrimes will be instrumental in educating the public and preventing these crimes. One of the most concerning trends we see is digital arrest – where people, out of fear, end up sharing their bank details and personal information with fraudsters. I urge everyone not to do that.

Always remember the most important number to combat cybercrimes: 1930. This helpline can save you from significant loss and distress. I request the media, social media influencers, students, and police to join hands and spread awareness about 1930. Mainstream and social media platforms, with their
reach and content, can play a significant role in popularizing this number. Cybercrime has grown into a menace that demands our collective awareness and action.

DCP Cyber Crimes Sreebala stated that policing is not just a job but a responsibility. She emphasized that in most cybercrimes, people not only lose money but sometimes even their lives. " We need education, collaboration, and continuous training to combat these crimes effectively," she said. Furthermore, she clarified, This is not merely an initiative; it is a project—Project P.R.O.T.E.C.T—designed to protect people from cyber threats.; she added, that the more you know about cybercrimes, the safer you will be. This initiative aims to empower citizens with critical knowledge about the latest cybercrimes and equip them to safeguard themselves against evolving threats.

The Cybercrime Mega Awareness Drive, scheduled for December 18, 2024, will be conducted across the Cyberabad Commissionerate. Police personnel and volunteers will actively engage with citizens through interactive sessions, street plays (Nukkad Natak), and other awareness activities at high-footfall locations such as colleges, corporate offices, malls, banks, parks, metro stations, and public hubs. The theme of P.R.O.T.E.C.T. Let’s join hands to create a secure digital future. we can “Make A Difference On The Go!”

SCSC General Secretary Mr. Ramesh Kaza stated that many people have become victims of cybercrimes nowadays. From common citizens to prominent individuals, no one is immune to these crimes. He emphasized that the lack of awareness is a significant reason for the increase in cybercrimes day by day. He highlighted the importance of the " Each One, Teach One Quote; approach, stressing that with collective awareness and collaboration, cybercrimes can be effectively controlled. He also urged the support of the media to help spread awareness and reduce the impact of cybercrimes. He further said.. This initiative underscores the commitment of the Cyberabad Police and SCSC to educate, engage, and prevent cybercrimes through collaborative outreach. Citizens will be provided with practical tips on identifying and preventing cyber fraud, phishing, social engineering attacks, and financial scams. Posters,
flyers, and social media campaigns will amplify the message further. Through this extensive awareness drive, the Cyberabad Police and SCSC aim to reach thousands of individuals, encouraging proactive reporting of incidents and fostering a cyber-safe ecosystem.

Cyber Crimes ACP Chandrakanth stated that people should report cybercrimes as soon as possible to 1930, as it is the golden hour to recover their lost money. He emphasized that people should not search for customer care numbers on Search engines. Instead, they should take the numbers only from official websites.

SCSC CEO Naved Khan explained the execution of Project P.R.O.T.E.C.T. He stated that the project will operate through two teams: One team will consist of 50 to 60 SCSC volunteers. The other team will include 50 to 60 Police officers. Each group will be formed with two members—one Police officer and one traffic volunteer.

These groups will visit banks, hotels, parks, schools, colleges, and other public places to interact with the public and spread awareness about cybercrime.

Cybercrime expert Praveen Tangella advised people not to fall prey to Do not fall prey to schemes promising easy money or second incomes and cybercrimes. He emphasized that Awareness is the key to avoiding cybercrimes. Individuals should use their common sense, avoid being greedy, and remain calm and composed at all times. At the end of the session, Madhapur DCP G. Vineeth, IPS, launched a short film on trading fraud.

Following this, Women and Children Safety Wing DCP Srujana Karnam launched another short film highlighting the importance of 1930, the toll-free number for reporting cybercrimes.

Finally, Cyberabad CP Avinash Mohanty, IPS, unveiled posters on 1930, digital arrest, trading fraud, and safe jobs to further spread awareness. (Maxim News)
