Heavy Thunderstorms Bring Much-Needed Relief from Heatwave in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: After days of scorching heat, Hyderabad finally got some relief as heavy thunderstorms lashed several parts of the city on Friday night and early Saturday morning. Some areas even experienced hailstorms along with intense rainfall.

According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), the University of Hyderabad (Serilingampally mandal) recorded the highest rainfall in the city at 54.5 mm between 8:30 PM on Friday and 7:00 AM on Saturday. Surprisingly, Allapur and Vivekananda Nagar (Kukatpally mandal) in Medchal-Malkajgiri district received a massive 508 mm of rain.

  • Madhapur: 48.8 mm
  • Khairatabad: 48.5 mm
  • Rajendranagar: 47.5 mm
  • Gachibowli: 45.8 mm
  • Kapra: 39.3 mm
  • Alwal: 35.8 mm

Apart from rain, Banjara Hills, Miyapur, Tellapur, and Gachibowli also saw hailstorms. The thunderstorms lasted 30 to 40 minutes in most places before weakening.

The sudden showers brought much-needed relief to Hyderabadis struggling with the intense heatwave. The rain not only cooled down temperatures but also improved air quality and replenished water levels.
