Hyderabad, June 27, 2025 (Maxim News): Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar has launched a sharp attack on the Telangana Congress government, accusing it of disrespecting Hindu sentiments by renaming Annapurna Canteens as Indira Canteens. The move, he said, is part of a wider trend of name-changing politics that has become a hallmark of the current administration.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Bandi Sanjay expressed outrage over what he called a “shameless” act of removing the name of Goddess Annapurna, the deity associated with food and nourishment, from the subsidized canteen scheme that provides meals for just ₹5 in Hyderabad.
“The Congress promised transformation in Telangana. All they’ve done in 18 months is change names — universities, hospitals, irrigation projects, awards, housing schemes, and even statues of Telangana Thalli,” he wrote.
Religious Sentiment and Political Backlash
Calling the renaming a direct insult to Hindu beliefs, Sanjay said replacing the sacred name of Annapurna with that of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi not only undermines cultural values but also alienates the sentiments of the common public who revere the deity.
“Annapurna is not just a name, it is a symbol of divinity and nourishment in Indian culture. The Congress has shown complete disregard for faith and tradition,” he stated.
The BJP leader’s comments have sparked political debate and stirred public discourse around the state government’s branding decisions, with many questioning the intent and sensitivity behind renaming welfare schemes.
Congress Government Faces Growing Criticism
This controversy adds to the mounting criticism against the Revanth Reddy-led Congress government, which is being accused of prioritizing symbolic politics over substantial development. Critics claim that renaming existing schemes and infrastructure projects reflects a lack of original policy innovation.
While the government has yet to officially respond to the backlash, the issue has gained momentum on social media and in political circles.
