Mumbai, July 19, 2025 – Mohammed Shariful Islam, the prime accused in the high-profile stabbing incident involving Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, has filed a bail application in a Mumbai court, asserting that the First Information Report (FIR) filed against him is “nothing but a fictional story” devoid of any substantial evidence.
Islam, 30, is currently lodged in Arthur Road Jail following his arrest earlier this year. The stabbing incident, which shocked the film fraternity and fans alike, occurred in the early hours of January when a man allegedly broke into Saif Ali Khan’s Bandra residence and attacked him while trying to burglarize the house.
Bail Plea Highlights Lack of Evidence, Calls FIR Baseless
Filed through his advocate Vipul Dushing, the bail petition maintains that Islam is innocent and has no prior criminal record. It also argues that the investigation is nearly complete, with the charge sheet yet to be filed.
“The present FIR is nothing but a fictitious story fabricated by the complainant,” the plea states.
“Crucial evidence, including CCTV footage and call data records, is already in the possession of the prosecution. There is no risk of evidence tampering or influencing witnesses.”
The bail application further challenges the legality of the arrest, citing a violation of Section 47 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) — formerly the Indian Civil Defence Code — which mandates that an arrested individual must be informed of the grounds of arrest and their right to seek bail.
Case Adjourned to July 21
The court has scheduled the next hearing on July 21, when it will take up arguments related to the accused’s bail request and review the claims of procedural violations and lack of direct evidence.
Incident Recap: Midnight Break-In and Violent Confrontation
On the night of the attack, Saif Ali Khan was reportedly awakened by noises coming from his son Jeh’s room. Upon entering, he found the intruder in a heated altercation with the household help. Saif intervened, resulting in a violent scuffle, during which he sustained six stab wounds, two of them dangerously close to his spine.
The intruder allegedly entered the residence around 2:15 am, attacked a domestic worker, and then turned on Saif when he attempted to subdue him using only his bare hands. The actor’s quick response, despite being unarmed, likely prevented further harm to his family.
