Badaun (Uttar Pradesh)/Hyderabad, July 23, 2025 (Maxim News): A rare Panchmukhi (five-faced) Shivalinga, believed to be around 300 years old, was discovered during the excavation of a pond in Sarai Pipariya village, located in the Dataganj tehsil of Badaun district, Uttar Pradesh.
According to the police, the ancient six-foot-tall Shivalinga, carved from marble, was found at a depth of nearly six feet. The discovery has sparked spiritual fervor among locals and Shiva devotees across the region, especially during the auspicious Shravan month.
Devotees Flock for Darshan and Worship
As news of the discovery spread, thousands of devotees from surrounding villages gathered at the site to offer prayers and perform special pujas. Mahant Paramatma Das Maharaj, priest of the nearby Brahmadev Temple, stated that the idol could date back nearly three centuries, though official verification is pending.
“This rare Panchmukhi form is spiritually significant, especially during Shravan. We consider it a divine blessing,” he said.
Authorities Step In for Preservation
To maintain order and ensure smooth conduct for visiting devotees, local authorities have taken swift action. Dataganj Sub-Divisional Magistrate Dharmendra Kumar Singh confirmed that both police and revenue officials have been deployed at the site.
He further stated that the Archaeological Department will soon begin an investigation to confirm the age and historical significance of the Shivalinga.
Plans for Temple Construction
Activist Shipra Pathak, associated with the Narmada Bachao Abhiyan, expressed interest in constructing a permanent temple for Lord Shiva at the discovery site, saying it would serve as a center of devotion and cultural heritage.
The sacred find has not only stirred religious sentiments but also brought national attention to the village, which is now buzzing with spiritual energy and hopes of preserving this historical relic.
