Waqf Board Reeling Under Destruction by ‘Three Ullahs’!?

Waqf Board | Hyderabad, July 30: The Telangana State Waqf Board, custodian of thousands of crores worth of religious and charitable properties, is facing what many insiders describe as a complete institutional breakdown.

At the center of this chaos is the power struggle between three senior officials: Syed Azmathullah Hussaini (Chairman), B. Shafiullah (Secretary, Minority Welfare), and Mohd Asadullah (CEO), collectively dubbed “the three Ullahs.”

Far from working in harmony, the trio has been accused of running the board through authoritarian decision-making, personal turf wars, and a lack of internal communication, leading to delayed actions, policy paralysis, and public distrust.

Critical files have remained untouched for weeks, grievance redressal mechanisms are failing, and allegations of favoritism and opacity are rising from both within and outside the community.

This dysfunction has only worsened since the Telangana High Court’s recent ruling ordering the removal of Mohd Asadullah as CEO, citing procedural violations under the newly enforced Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025,

The court gave the government four months to appoint a qualified and legally compliant officer in his place. However, since the Revanth Reddy’s government promoted him to Addl Collector , the order automatically became null and void.

Observers note that instead of collaborative leadership, the three Ullahs often function in silos, pushing independent agendas and issuing conflicting directives — thereby weakening the very institution they are supposed to strengthen.

With public assets, minority welfare, and community interests on the line, the consequences of this internal disarray are profound and far-reaching.

Amid this backdrop of controversy and institutional collapse, Mohd Asadullah is ironically poised for personal elevation, as his name features prominently in the Telangana government’s upcoming list of IAS promotions under the State and Non-State Civil Services quota.

His likely elevation comes at a time when the organization he formerly led is sinking deeper into disrepute and legal entanglements.

Meanwhile, the implementation of the controversial Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, which triggered nationwide protests, continues to reshape the governance structure of waqf institutions across India.

In Telangana, however, the challenge is twofold: not just legislative compliance, but also fixing the deep-rooted leadership crisis tearing the Board apart.
