Kodangal Dargah, Graveyard Demolition Sparks Protests; Several Detained

- Locals Question Waqf Board’s Silence on Demolition
Kodangal Dargah | Hyderabad, Sept. 21: Several young Muslim men were taken into preventive custody by Vikarabad police on Sunday for protesting against the demolition of a graveyard and a dargah in Kodangal.
The demolition was part of a road widening project. Visuals from the site showed protestors being forcefully whisked into police vehicles and shifted to multiple police stations.
A heavy police contingent was deployed at the location to prevent escalation.
Among those detained was AIMIM Vikarabad joint secretary Sultan Bahauddin Gulshan, who was shifted to Doma police station.
On receiving information about the protests, Vikarabad District AIMIM President Abdul Hadi Sheri was heading to Kodangal when he was arrested near Chengimul police station and shifted to Vikarabad police station.
He demanded that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy ensure the Dargah of Mehboob Subhani is immediately rebuilt at the same site. It is notable that before the elections, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had also visited this Dargah.

Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) spokesperson Amjedullah Khan, who was on his way to Kodangal, was also held at Chengamul and taken to the police station.
Khan criticised the administration for its actions and demanded the immediate halt of the demolition. “CM Revanth Reddy is troubling the Muslim community. If this continues, he will not be able to recover his deposit in the next elections,” he said while being escorted by police.
The Chengamul police explained that Khan was detained to control rising tensions. “There is some issue regarding the dargah demolition in Kodangal.
We anticipated that the situation could worsen if Khan reached there. He has been put under preventive detention. Later in evening he was released. No case has been registered,” a senior police officer said.
Residents have voiced frustration over the lack of response from authorities.
Amjedullah Khan questioned why Waqf Board Chairman Syed Azmathullah Hussaini and the waqf inspectors have remained silent. He said that when he spoke to the chairman on the phone, the chairman replied, “I do not know anything.”
