Formula-E Race Case: Vigilance Clears Prosecution Of IAS Officers Arvind Kumar And BLN Reddy
Hyderabad, Sept. 24 (Maxim News) : The Formula-E car race case in Telangana has taken a new turn with the Vigilance Commission recommending action against two senior IAS officers.
The Commission has asked the government to initiate proceedings against Arvind Kumar and BLN Reddy, who allegedly played a key role in the controversial event.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) had earlier submitted a report to the state government, seeking permission to prosecute the officers. Following an inquiry into this report, the Vigilance Commission has now granted clearance for prosecution.
In a related move, the ACB has also sought the Governor’s approval to investigate BRS Working President and former minister K.T. Rama Rao (KTR). However, no decision has been taken by the Governor so far.
The Formula-E car race was first held in Hyderabad on February 11, 2023, during the BRS government. Allegations surfaced that payments were made to foreign companies in violation of rules, leading to a loss of Rs. 54.88 crore to the state exchequer.
The ACB has registered a case against KTR and several senior officials over alleged misuse of funds.
The controversy stems from a tripartite agreement signed on October 25, 2022, between Ace Next Gen Private Limited, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department (MAUD), and the British Formula E Operations (FEO).
While the sponsor was supposed to cover the costs, Ace Next Gen withdrew after incurring a Rs. 165 crore loss in managing Season 9.
This prompted a new agreement in October 2023, under which the BRS government, FEO, and MAUD agreed to spend Rs. 600 crore for the subsequent seasons.
The ACB has indicated it is ready to move forward with prosecution once the Governor grants permission.
According to officials, a detailed charge sheet has been prepared with evidence that includes alleged misuse of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) funds, irregularities in race expenditures, and electoral bonds worth Rs. 44 crore received by the BRS through quid pro quo arrangements with Green Co company.
With the Vigilance Commission’s recommendation, the Formula-E race case has once again returned to the political spotlight in Telangana, placing pressure on both senior bureaucrats and the state’s political leadership. (Maxim News)
