Hyderabad, Sept. 10: Mirchowk Police arrested a 25 year old man for allegedly cheating a person through a fake UPI payment.
Police identified the accused as Abdallah Obaid Bin Abdat Al Katheri, also known as Abdullah.
Police said they arrested him at Purani Haveli in Chattabazar on September 10.
The case was registered under Sections 303(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Mirchowk Police Trace Fake Payment Case
According to police, the complainant visited an SBI ATM near the City Civil Court on September 5.
He had gone there to deposit Rs 20,000. The accused allegedly approached him and offered to transfer Rs 10,000 through PhonePe.
Police said the accused scanned the complainant’s Google Pay QR code and showed a fake payment screenshot.
Believing the payment was successful, the complainant handed over Rs 10,000 in cash.
He later checked his bank account and found that no payment had been received.
Police said the accused then left the location on a Rapido bike that was waiting outside the ATM.
During the investigation, police allegedly found that the accused had used a similar method in another case.
Police said he allegedly cheated another person of Rs 6,000 near an SBI ATM at Koti on September 6.
The Sultan Bazar Police registered that case under Sections 318(4) and 303(2) of the BNS.
Police said the accused spent the money on personal expenses and recovered Rs 4,000 from him.
They also seized a Redmi mobile phone allegedly used in the offence.
Police said the accused had previously been booked in six cases, including cases registered at Moghalpura, Kanchanbagh, Chandrayangutta and Sultan Bazar police stations.
The investigation was led by Detective Sub Inspector Md Mujtaba Ali Quasim of Mirchowk Police Station.
Senior officers appreciated the Mirchowk police team for tracing and arresting the accused.
