BJP Opposed Political Reservations To Muslims Under BC Quota: Ramachandra Rao
Hyderabad/Karimnagar, Oct 1 (Maxim News) : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has initiated the process of selecting candidates for the upcoming local body elections in Telangana, with state president N. Ramachandra Rao announcing that the names of Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) candidates will be declared first.
Speaking to the journalists’ in Karimnagar, Rao expressed confidence that the BJP would contest from ward member to ZPTC across all constituencies and emerge with the highest number of victories.
He criticized both the Congress and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), saying they had no moral right to seek votes in the upcoming polls.
Rao alleged that the BRS diverted central funds meant for local bodies, weakening the panchayat system. He said that the mismanagement during the BRS regime had created conditions where sarpanches were pushed to distress and even suicides. “They have brought panchayats to a stage where they cannot even pay electricity bills,” he stated, urging people to support the BJP.
The BJP leader also attacked the Congress, accusing it of failing to implement promises made to the people. He said development in villages was made possible only through central funds. He pointed out that the Centre provides ₹40,000 crore in fertilizer subsidies, but the Congress created artificial shortages by failing in distribution.
On the contentious issue of reservations, Rao said the delay in amending the 42 percent BC quota had led to unnecessary legal disputes. He accused the Congress of lacking sincerity in conducting elections, which resulted in a two-year delay. He clarified that while BC-E (Muslims) had earlier been limited to education and employment reservations, they are now being provided political reservations, to which the BJP has raised objections.
He also demanded a full investigation into the Kaleshwaram project corruption, saying it was not enough to restrict inquiries to Medigadda and Sundilla. Repairs must be carried out in line with the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) report, he added.
Rao emphasized that the BJP opposes party defections and insisted that leaders joining the party must first resign from their posts. (Maxim News)
