Hyderabad, August 25: TPCC Working President Jagga Reddy on Monday condemned the remarks made by Konda Susmitha, daughter of senior Congress leaders Konda Surekha and Konda Murali, against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
He said such remarks are unacceptable and warned that political leaders must not allow their children to make damaging statements in the public domain. He spoke to the media at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad.
According to Jagga Reddy, he respects Konda Surekha and Konda Murali as political leaders. However, he said Konda Susmitha does not hold the standing to make remarks against a Chief Minister.
He condemned her comments and said even if it is a leader’s own daughter, speaking disparagingly about someone of the CM’s stature is wrong. Furthermore, he called on all leaders to refrain from encouraging such behaviour.
Additionally, Jagga Reddy recalled that CM Revanth Reddy had already directed party leaders not to publicly discuss the Konda Surekha issue and that AICC would handle the matter.
He said this instruction is still in place. Moreover, he noted that just because someone is the child of a senior Congress leader does not mean they can publicly attack any person they choose without political consequences.
Jagga Reddy Says AICC to Handle Konda Surekha Issue, Warns Against Political Risk From Leaders’ Children Furthermore, Jagga Reddy made pointed remarks about the double standard at play. He said that if Konda Susmitha were the daughter of an opposition leader rather than a Congress leader, the party would have responded far more harshly. He said they are exercising restraint specifically because she belongs to a Congress family.
He added that AICC will handle this matter and the party has been instructed to stay silent for now.
Moreover, Jagga Reddy acknowledged that intra-party conflicts are not new to Congress. He said the party has seen action and reaction, and also forgiveness when apologies are offered.
He recalled that in the combined Andhra Pradesh era, there were fierce internal battles within the Congress party, including serious conflicts at Gandhi Bhavan itself. However, he noted that leaders’ children were never involved in those disputes the way they are now.
Additionally, he cited the historical example of Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and P. Janardhan Reddy. He said that dispute was one of the biggest internal wars Congress saw in Andhra Pradesh. In that case, the party suspended PJR. Consequently, he said the party has always taken firm action when internal discipline was breached, and this situation is no different in principle.
Konda Surekha, Konda Murali, and Konda Susmitha had not issued public responses to Jagga Reddy’s remarks at the time of this report.
The Konda Surekha issue and its handling by AICC remains an ongoing internal matter within the Telangana Congress.
