Chalo Bus Bhavan: Harish Rao Placed Under House Arrest Ahead of BRS Protest
Chalo Bus Bhavan | Hyderabad, Oct 9: Tension prevailed in Hyderabad this morning as police placed former Minister and BRS leader T. Harish Rao under house arrest ahead of the party’s planned ‘Chalo Bus Bhavan’ protest.
The agitation was called by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) to oppose the recent RTC bus fare hike in the city.
BRS leaders had announced that all MLAs from the Greater Hyderabad region would travel to the Bus Bhavan headquarters in RTC buses to mark their protest against the government’s decision.
However, police swiftly moved to prevent large-scale gatherings, deploying additional forces at several key locations.
Heavy police deployment at Harish Rao’s residence
According to reports, Harish Rao was preparing to leave for the protest from his residence in Kokapet when police personnel surrounded his house early in the morning.
He was stopped from stepping out and kept under house arrest as a preventive measure. A heavy police presence was witnessed around his home to avoid any untoward incidents.
Simultaneously, security has also been tightened near the residence of BRS working president K. T. Rama Rao (KTR). He was scheduled to board a bus from the Rethifile Bus Stop in Secunderabad at 9 a.m. and proceed to Bus Bhavan as part of the protest.
BRS leaders prevented from joining ‘Chalo Bus Bhavan’ protest
Meanwhile, Harish Rao was supposed to board an RTC bus from Mehdipatnam at 8:45 a.m. and head to Bus Bhavan. However, before he could leave, police intervened and prevented him from participating. The preventive arrests and security clampdown have effectively restricted the party’s plans for a citywide protest against the RTC fare hike, which has sparked widespread criticism among commuters and opposition parties alike.
