Cyclone Montha: Schools Closed In Telangana

Hyderabad: Schools across several districts in Telangana have been closed due to heavy rains triggered by Cyclone Michaung (locally known as Montha). The cyclone made landfall near Antarvedipalem in Andhra Pradesh on Monday night, causing widespread rainfall and strong winds across Telangana from Tuesday afternoon. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to very heavy rains accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds over the next two days.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to very heavy rainfall across many parts of the state over the next two days, accompanied by thunder, lightning, and strong winds.

Red Alert in Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Khammam

The IMD has issued a red alert for Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Khammam districts, warning of intense rainfall and possible flooding.

An orange alert has been declared for Mancherial, Peddapalli, Bhupalpally, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Adilabad, Nirmal, and Karimnagar districts. Yellow alerts are in place for Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Siddipet, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, and Nagarkurnool.

In view of the severe weather, district officials have declared holidays for all government and private schools.

Mahabubnagar District Education Officer Praveen Kumar issued orders closing schools across the district. Similar orders were passed by Mahabubabad Collector Advait Kumar Singh, leading to the postponement of ongoing quarterly examinations.

Khammam Collector Anudeep Durishetty and Nalgonda Collector Ila Tripathi also announced holidays for educational institutions in their respective districts.

Officials have advised the public to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow safety advisories issued by local administrations.

The Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services Department is monitoring the situation closely, with emergency teams on standby to assist in flood-prone regions.
