IAS Transfers Telangana: Plans Major Transfers Over Poor Performance

Hyderabad: The Telangana government is preparing for large-scale transfers of IAS officers working in the Secretariat and heads of departments following reports of negligence and poor performance. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy reportedly expressed anger during a recent review meeting, noting that several officers were ignoring government priorities and taking unilateral decisions, damaging the administration’s reputation. The Chief Minister is said to be finalizing a reshuffle plan to replace non-performing officials with more efficient officers.

CM Revanth Reddy to Act Against Inefficient IAS Officers

Sources said that during the previous BRS regime, certain IAS officers held key posts for nearly a decade, enjoying priority positions. After the Congress government took charge, a few were shifted to less significant roles, while some continued in important posts. However, concerns have been raised within bureaucratic circles that officials who were favored earlier still hold influential positions, prompting the Chief Minister to intervene.

Revanth Reddy reportedly sidelined a few senior officers — including those at the Special Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary level — to give Secretariat and HOD postings to younger IAS officers. Yet, many among them allegedly began prioritizing personal interests over official responsibilities. Criticism has grown that several officers are focusing more on personal benefits rather than implementing government programs effectively.

Reports indicate that some secretaries, commissioners, and directors are delaying file clearances, including those related to welfare schemes, for weeks. Even after repeated follow-ups by ministers, files remain pending until instructions come directly from the Chief Minister’s Office. Officials said that such officers might soon be moved to less significant posts as part of the reshuffle.

Allegations of Corruption and Staff Manipulation Surface

Allegations have also emerged that some officers are manipulating staff appointments, replacing existing personal assistants and secretaries with individuals who serve their private agendas. In some cases, these aides allegedly negotiate payments for clearing files. A few officers are also reported to be running unofficial offices outside the Secretariat, where they meet contractors and settle administrative matters privately.

Recognizing these irregularities, the Chief Minister is expected to initiate disciplinary measures and assign responsibilities to more accountable officers. During a recent internal review, Revanth Reddy reportedly warned, “Even after two years of this people’s government, some officers have not improved their work ethic. Negligence in implementing government programs will not be tolerated. Do not take unilateral decisions that bring disrepute to the government.”
