The deceased, identified as Manisha, was married in 2022 and had a three-year-old daughter. According to police, she was found hanging from a ceiling fan with a sari at her residence. Investigators said she had reportedly suffered from myrmecophobia — an intense fear of ants — since childhood. Her family earlier sought counselling for her at a hospital in her native town of Mancherial.

Police said that on the day of the incident, Manisha dropped her daughter at a relative’s home, telling them she would pick her up later after cleaning her own house. Her husband left for work in the morning and returned in the evening to find the door locked from inside. With the help of neighbours, he broke open the door and discovered his wife hanging from the ceiling fan.

A handwritten note found at the spot revealed her distress. It read: “Sri, I am sorry, I cannot live with these ants. Take care of (daughter). Be careful. Annavaram, Tirupati Rs 1,116… don’t forget Yellamma vadi biyyam.” According to police, the note indicated that she might have seen ants while cleaning and, overwhelmed by fear, taken the drastic step.

The incident highlights how untreated phobias can lead to severe consequences if not regularly managed. Police have registered a case at the Ameenpur police station and initiated further investigation. Authorities are also likely to consult medical experts to understand whether her condition contributed directly to the incident.
