Telangana Records Single-Digit Temperatures

  • Winter cold intensifies as Telangana sees temperatures drop to 8.1°C
  • 11 locations record single-digit lows; IMD forecasts more chill ahead

Telangana is experiencing a sharp drop in temperatures this November, with single-digit readings recorded across several parts of the state. The chill intensified on Saturday as 11 locations reported minimum temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature of 8.1°C was recorded at Kohir in Sangareddy district and Yalal in Vikarabad district, marking a notably cold start to the winter season.

According to official data, other regions that recorded single-digit temperatures include Sirpur (8.4°C) in Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Bibipet (8.6°C) in Kamareddy, Bazarhathnoor (8.6°C) in Adilabad, Akbarpet-Bhoompally (8.9°C) in Siddipet, Rudrangi (9.0°C) in Rajanna Sircilla, Ramayampet (9.6°C) in Medak, Serilingampally (9.8°C) in Rangareddy, Sarangapur (9.9°C) in Nirmal, and Varni (9.9°C) in Nizamabad. Many of these areas showed a significant departure from normal temperature levels expected for this time of year.

The Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS) report stated that the average minimum temperature in Sangareddy district stood at 11.6°C, showing a drop of -5.6°C below the normal range. Kamareddy district recorded the maximum departure from average, witnessing a decline of -6.1°C with a minimum temperature of 11.0°C. Within the Greater Hyderabad region, the lowest temperature of 9.8°C was observed at the University of Hyderabad in Rangareddy district.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted that minimum temperatures across Telangana are likely to remain below normal by 3°C to 4°C for the next two to three days. The department attributed this cold spell to prevailing dry winter conditions and clear skies, which typically intensify night-time cooling. Residents are advised to brace for further dips in temperature as the state witnesses one of its coldest starts to November in recent years.
