Hyderabad, August 17 (Maxim News): Telangana has launched the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs, known as TG Safe, to strengthen safety standards.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said the new authority will focus on public health, safety and accountability. The government brought food safety and drug control functions under one coordinated system.
The move aims to improve monitoring of food products and medicines across the state. It also seeks to strengthen action against adulterated and substandard products.
According to the government, separate departments earlier handled food safety and drug regulation. Now, TG Safe will coordinate these functions under a common framework.
The new system will focus on quality standards, safety checks and regulatory accountability. It will also help improve coordination between officials handling food and medicine safety.
TG Safe to strengthen public health oversight
Revanth Reddy said his government gives high priority to the safety and welfare of citizens. He said TG Safe reflects the government’s commitment to lawful governance and accountability.
The Chief Minister said the authority would play a key role in building a safer Telangana. He also urged people to use the services offered through the new system.
Meanwhile, Avinash Mahanti took charge as TG Safe Commissioner on Monday, August 17. He assumed office at the Drug Control Administration headquarters.
Mahanti will lead the newly established authority as it coordinates food safety and drug control activities. The government expects the new structure to improve regulatory oversight across both sectors.
Furthermore, TG Safe will monitor food quality and drug standards more closely. Officials will also focus on identifying violations and taking action against unsafe products.
The authority’s work will cover areas linked to food quality, medicine standards and public health. It aims to improve transparency in regulatory processes and strengthen accountability among stakeholders.
The government has adopted the theme, “TG Safe for a Safe Telangana,” for the initiative. The authority is expected to play a larger role in protecting consumers from unsafe food and medicines.
However, the effectiveness of TG Safe will depend on regular inspections, timely testing and strong enforcement. Better coordination between departments will also remain important.
With the new structure, Telangana aims to create a stronger regulatory system for essential food and medicines. The government expects TG Safe to make safety monitoring more efficient and responsive. (Maxim News)
