Supreme Court Asks Centre To Formulate National Policy On Organ Donation

Delhi/Hyderabad, Nov 19 (Maxim News):  The Supreme Court today asked the Centre to formulate a national policy and uniform rules in collaboration with all states to ensure transparent and efficient organ donation. The bench comprising Chief Justice BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran issued these orders. The bench expressed this view on a PIL filed by the Indian Society of Organ Transplantation. The Supreme Court asked the Centre to issue directions to the state of Andhra Pradesh to implement the 2011 Act, which has been amended in the 1994 Act on Organ Donation.

The court also directed the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Manipur to take steps to implement the new law. The Supreme Court asked the central government to develop a national policy on organ donation. The court said that steps should be taken to ensure justice for those who donate organs. It said that the welfare of donors is important. (Maxim News)
