Hyderabad: The Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma has given approval for the prosecution of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president and former minister K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) in the Formula E car race case. The case relates to the alleged misuse of ₹54.88 crore public funds, paving the way for the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to file a chargesheet against KTR and other accused.

This approval comes after months of anticipation and political turmoil. The state government had earlier submitted the file seeking the Governor’s sanction to prosecute KTR, which remained pending for over two months. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had accused the BJP and BRS of having an “adhesive bond” and alleged that the delay was meant to protect KTR from prosecution. However, the Governor’s nod now clears the path for legal proceedings.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay, reacted strongly to the development. He questioned what the Congress, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, would say now that the prosecution had been approved by the Governor. Bandi Sanjay highlighted that Revanth Reddy had criticized BJP and BRS as being one and the same. He also reminded that the Chief Minister had previously promised to confiscate the properties of the corrupt but had resisted the prosecution approval until now. Bandi Sanjay further criticized the so-called urban Naxalites for inciting children and allegedly earning crores through their actions.

KTR has maintained that the case against him is politically motivated and referred to it as a flimsy matter lacking credible evidence. He noted that once a chargesheet is filed, Governor’s permission is not required again and described the prolonged delay and renewed referral to the Governor as part of political spectacle.

This development marks a significant point in Telangana’s political and legal landscape with implications for upcoming local body elections and ongoing political rivalries.
