PvPI QR Code Now Mandatory At Telangana Pharmacies
- Telangana pharmacies told to display PvPI QR code and helpline
- Drug safety reporting stressed under nationwide pharmacovigilance drive
Pharmacies across Telangana must now prominently display the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI) Quick Reaction code and toll free number for reporting adverse drug reactions. This direction from the Telangana Drugs Control Administration aims to improve patient safety by making the reporting process easier and faster for the public.
DCA Director General Shahnawaz Qasim issued the instructions on Saturday. He said that pharmacies, including retail and wholesale shops, must ensure that the PvPI QR code is clear, unobstructed and easily accessible. He explained that this mechanism allows people to instantly report suspected adverse reactions. He also said, “This mechanism will enable quick and seamless reporting of adverse events/adverse drug reactions through the indigenous PvPI adverse drug reaction monitoring system.”
The DCA also directed pharmacies to display the toll free number 1800 180 3024 at a visible location. This number will allow people to report adverse events if they are unable to use the QR code. The department said both methods support national efforts to detect, assess and prevent risks linked to medicines.
Qasim added that scanning the QR code at any medical shop enables immediate reporting through the PvPI monitoring system. He said these reports directly help national authorities strengthen drug safety systems. He also urged people to use the helpline whenever needed and report any suspected issue with medicines.
He stressed that public participation remains key to improving drug safety. He noted that stronger reporting will help safeguard public health and reinforce India’s surveillance framework for monitoring adverse drug reactions. The DCA said the initiative aligns with the wider national move to improve pharmacovigilance and ensure safer use of medicines.
The move is expected to improve awareness among consumers and encourage them to share information about medicine related problems. The department believes easy access to reporting tools will help build a safer medical environment for everyone. It also said the cooperation of pharmacies will be crucial for the success of this nationwide safety effort.
