The Telangana Assembly witnessed disruption on its fourth day after the Speaker rejected an adjournment motion on education moved by the BJP. The motion sought a discussion on what the party described as a serious crisis in the state’s education sector. However, the rejection led to protests by BJP MLAs and briefly affected the proceedings of the House.
Before the Assembly session began, BJP Legislature Party leader Alleti Maheshwar Reddy led party MLAs to submit the adjournment motion to the Assembly Secretary. The BJP demanded an urgent debate on falling student admissions in government schools, junior colleges, degree colleges, and PG universities. The party said public confidence in government-run education institutions was steadily declining.
Meanwhile, BJP MLAs alleged that poor infrastructure was the main reason behind the drop in admissions. They also claimed that fee reimbursement dues pending from the previous government had now risen to nearly Rs 10,000 crore. According to the BJP, delays in releasing these funds had placed many private college managements under severe financial stress. They said several institutions were unable to pay staff salaries and were facing the risk of closure.
The BJP further told the House that students were suffering due to these delays. They claimed certificates were not being issued even after course completion. As a result, students were unable to pursue higher education or secure jobs. Therefore, the party demanded immediate government intervention and early release of the pending fee reimbursement amounts.
Later, as the Assembly resumed, Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar took up the Question Hour. However, BJP members soon raised slogans and moved towards the Speaker’s podium. They insisted on taking up the adjournment motion on education for discussion. The situation then turned tense as members continued to demand a debate on the issue.
Meanwhile, the Speaker rejected the adjournment motion. Following the rejection, BJP MLAs continued their protest inside the House. As slogans echoed, the proceedings were briefly disrupted. The episode highlighted growing political friction over education-related issues in the state. Despite the disorder, the House later attempted to return to normal business, even as the issue remained unresolved.
