Together, the decisions mark a major administrative change in the functioning of the Board.

The Minorities Welfare Department issued a memo dated January 6, 2026, granting provisional authorisation for the drawal of salaries.

The order allows the Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Asadullah of the Telangana Waqf Board to disburse salaries for all categories of staff from existing funds.

It also permits the CEO to take action in legal matters to ensure smooth operations until further government orders.

Powers shifted from Chairman to CEO Asadullah

Meanwhile, the Telangana government has reduced the powers of the Waqf Board Chairman. It handed over effective control to CEO Mohd Asadullah.

This decision follows a funds delegation order dated December 6, 2025. The move limits the Chairman’s oversight under the Waqf Act, 1995.

Under the revised arrangement, CEO Asadullah now leads key decisions. These include legal actions and fund management.

Officials issued this order after reviewing reports submitted by the CEO during 2025. The Principal Secretary of the Minorities Welfare Department approved the changes.

The government stated that the step aims to strengthen Waqf Board operations. By centralising authority, officials expect faster decision making and better administrative control.

Waqf Board: Salary authorisation linked to operational continuity

The salary authorisation order cites Section 97 of the Waqf Act, 1995, and earlier government instructions issued on December 2, 2025. The order authorizes the Assistant Secretary (Establishment) to operate bank accounts jointly with the CEO’s signature. However, this permission applies only to salary payments.

Together, the decisions underline a clear shift in governance at the Telangana Wakf Board. While the government ensured timely salary payments, it also strengthened the CEO’s role.
