Municipal elections | Hyderabad, Jan. 12 (Maxim News): The race for tickets in the upcoming municipal elections has begun even before reservations are finalised.
With wide talk that the municipal election notification may be released soon, hopeful candidates have stepped up efforts to secure party tickets.
As a result, the residences of MLAs and constituency incharges of major political parties have turned busy, crowded with aspirants and their supporters seeking recommendations.
Aspirants have been assuring party leaders that they will win if given a ticket. Meanwhile, they are also increasing pressure by bringing local leaders, caste association members, and colony elders along with them.
This early rush has created strong political activity at the grassroots level. However, reservations for municipal wards are yet to be officially announced, and the election notification has not been issued so far.
Municipal elections ticket hopes rise despite no reservation clarity
Reservations for wards in various municipalities remain undecided. Although the reservation process is said to be in its final stage, uncertainty continues.
Still, aspirants believe reservations may turn in their favour. Therefore, they have intensified their efforts to secure tickets in advance. In many places, discussions have started around contesting regardless of whether the seat is reserved for SC, ST, BC, or general category.
Meanwhile, some aspirants are reportedly seeking tickets either for themselves or their spouses, depending on how reservations are declared.
This trend has become a common topic of discussion across municipalities. At the same time, reservations for municipal chairman posts have also not been confirmed.
However, many chairman aspirants believe that earlier reservation patterns may continue. Hence, they too have begun lobbying strongly for tickets.
Congress and BJP see intense competition in municipal elections
The ruling Congress party is witnessing stiff competition among aspirants keen to contest municipal elections.
In several municipalities linked to the undivided district, Congress hopefuls are actively working to secure tickets. Their efforts have increased in places where the party sees strong winning chances.
As a result, internal competition within the Congress has intensified.
On the other hand, aspirants are also showing interest in contesting on BJP tickets in municipalities such as Nirmal, Adilabad, Kagaznagar, and Bainsa.
The presence of BJP MLAs in these areas has encouraged more aspirants to come forward. Meanwhile, in municipalities like Mancherial, Chennur, Bellampalli, Laxettipet, Kathanpalli, Naspur, and Khanapur, Congress chairman aspirants have stepped up their efforts.
Overall, political activity has gained momentum across municipalities.
However, clarity on reservations and the official election schedule remains awaited. Until then, the ticket race in municipal elections is expected to grow more intense.
