Hyderabad, August 27: Telangana plans to transform Mir Alam Lake into a major family tourism and recreation hub.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy inspected the historic lake on Thursday. He reviewed ongoing development works and directed officials to complete them within the deadline.
The Chief Minister inspected works around the lake and the iconic suspension bridge. Officials explained the progress through a detailed photo presentation.
The Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited is overseeing the development project. The plan focuses on lake rejuvenation, island development and the iconic bridge.
Revanth Reddy directed officials to prevent sewage from entering Mir Alam Lake. He also asked them to widen nalas for the smooth flow of floodwater into the Musi River.
The Chief Minister stressed the need to improve water quality during the lake rejuvenation. He also called for strict attention to environmental and safety standards.
Mir Alam Lake Plan Includes Water Sports and Island Tourism
The government plans to introduce water sports at Mir Alam Lake. Officials will examine boating, adventure activities and other recreational options.
They will assess these activities based on technical, environmental and safety requirements. The move aims to attract both young visitors and families.
The development plan also proposes food courts, green parks and relaxation areas. Officials will create play areas and activity centres for children.
Furthermore, authorities plan walking spaces and pedestrian friendly public areas. They also aim to improve access and movement around the lake.
The government wants to develop the islands inside Mir Alam Lake. Officials will study nature based leisure facilities and glamping options.
The plan also includes the possibility of wedding and event destinations. The government will explore private participation through the public private partnership model.
Such participation could help develop quality tourism facilities and create employment opportunities. The project aims to make the lake useful for recreation throughout the day.
Suspension Bridge Work Crosses 50 Percent
Construction of the iconic suspension bridge has also made significant progress. As of August 27, workers completed 273 of the planned 544 piles.
The pile construction has reached 50.18 percent completion. Workers have also completed 28 of the planned 62 pile caps.
Pile cap construction has reached 45.16 percent. Workers have completed six of the planned 62 pier cum pier caps.
Revanth Reddy also directed officials to connect the lake development with the nearby Nehru Zoological Park. The aim is to create a wider tourism experience in the area.
Visitors could combine a zoo visit with nature, lake views and family recreation. The government wants these attractions to function as part of one tourism circuit.
Officials are currently preparing the Detailed Project Report for the lake rejuvenation. The plan also covers the surrounding areas and islands.
The lake’s location near Hyderabad airport gives the project added tourism potential. The government wants to use this advantage to attract visitors from India and abroad.
The proposed development will combine nature, recreation, water sports and family facilities. It will also add new public spaces and tourism infrastructure around the historic lake.
The government expects the completed project to offer Hyderabad residents a place for leisure and recreation. It also aims to establish Mir Alam Lake as a prominent tourism destination.
If completed as planned, the project could give the historic lake a new identity. It could also strengthen Hyderabad’s tourism network by linking the lake with the nearby zoo.
