Hyderabad, August 27: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said his party will contest the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Owaisi said AIMIM has not yet decided the number of seats it will contest. He said the party will announce the details soon.
Speaking to the media in Hyderabad, Owaisi said AIMIM has strengthened its organisation in Uttar Pradesh. He also expressed confidence about improving the party’s performance compared with previous elections.
The AIMIM chief said the party would soon announce the constituencies and candidates. However, he did not disclose a specific seat target.
AIMIM chief Owaisi rejects vote splitting charge
Owaisi strongly rejected the repeated allegation that AIMIM acts as a vote splitting party. He said rival parties use such claims to create a false impression about the electoral prospects of the NDA.
He also criticised leaders who, according to him, speak about secularism without reflecting ground realities. Owaisi said voters were increasingly seeking their own political leadership.
Asaduddin owaisi described AIMIM as a strong alternative political force. Furthermore, he cited the Bihar election results as giving greater momentum to this view.
Owaisi expressed confidence that a significant number of AIMIM candidates would win seats in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections.
Asad Owaisi did not, however, provide a specific number of expected victories.
The Uttar Pradesh election will therefore be important for AIMIM as it seeks to expand its political presence beyond its established base in Telangana.
AIMIM has contested elections in several states in recent years. The party has particularly focused on constituencies with sizeable Muslim populations while seeking to build an organisational network.
Owaisi’s latest remarks indicate that the party plans another active campaign in Uttar Pradesh. The final number of seats and candidates will clarify the scale of its electoral challenge.
