Security forces launched a major combing operation inside the Indravati National Park forest area.

Officials acted on inputs about Maoist movement in the region. The encounter remains part of ongoing anti Maoist operations in the Bastar division.

Bastar Inspector General of Police P Sundarraj led the operation. Teams from the District Reserve Guard, Special Task Force, and COBRA units joined the mission.

The forces entered the forest area early in the Saturday morning. Soon after, Maoists came into contact with the teams. As a result, heavy firing broke out from both sides.

Meanwhile, preliminary information confirmed that two Maoists died in the encounter. Police officials said the exchange of fire took place deep inside the forest.

Thick vegetation and rough terrain slowed the movement of security teams. Therefore, forces advanced carefully to avoid risks.

During the search, DRG teams recovered several items from the encounter spot.

Officials confirmed the seizure of rifles, ammunition, explosive material, and Maoist literature. These items indicate Maoist presence in the forest area.

However, officials said they will confirm the full list of recoveries after the operation ends.

IGP P Sundarraj said the combing operation is still in progress. Sundarraj added that forces will continue the search until they secure the entire area.

Security agencies remain alert, as more Maoists may still be hiding nearby. Therefore, officials expect more details once the situation becomes clear.

Meanwhile, police sources said the Indravati National Park area poses serious challenges. Dense forest cover makes movement slow and risky.

As a result, forces are following standard safety procedures. Officials stressed that coordination between units remains strong.
