Phone Tapping Case: SIT Issues Clarification After KTR Examination

Hyderabad, Jan. 23: The Special Investigation Team on Friday clarified the scope of its probe after examining BRS working president and former minister K T Rama Rao in the phone tapping case.

The SIT said the examination was conducted strictly in connection with Crime No 243 of 2024 registered at Panjagutta Police Station.

SIT warns against misinformation on phone tapping case

According to a press release issued by Hyderabad Police, the SIT served a notice to K T Rama Rao on January 23, 2026, directing him to appear before the investigation officer at Jubilee Hills Police Station.

KTR appeared as instructed and was examined in detail, the release stated.

Hyderabad Police said relevant aspects of the phone tapping case were elicited during the examination and are being analysed along with evidence already on record.

SIT also instructed K T Rama Rao not to contact or influence witnesses and informed him that he may be summoned again if required.

The SIT reiterated that the examination relates to allegations of widespread unauthorised and illegal phone surveillance.

The alleged surveillance involved thousands of citizens from different sections, including politicians, businesspersons, journalists, members of the judiciary and other prominent individuals.

Hyderabad police said certain sections were circulating misleading claims that the phone interception was carried out on security grounds and involved no illegality.

The investigating agency stated it is not concerned with such narratives and is conducting the phone tapping case probe strictly in accordance with law.

Hyderabad Police urged the public not to circulate unverified or misleading information and to rely only on facts released through official channels.
