Rayan Cherki completed the victory in the 78th minute. The result gave Manchester City their sixth consecutive league win this season.
Liverpool vs Manchester City | Gravenberch Red Card Changes the Match
Liverpool competed strongly during the opening hour, but struggled after losing Gravenberch. The midfielder was sent off following a foul on Doku.
City quickly capitalised on their numerical advantage. Haaland finished from close range after Doku’s attacking move created the opportunity.
Doku then produced a superb finish to extend the visitors’ advantage. His strike left Liverpool facing an increasingly difficult task.
Cherki added the third goal after Josko Gvardiol helped create the opening. His finish sealed an emphatic away victory for City’s side.
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola questioned the referee’s decision after the match. He argued that Gravenberch’s first yellow card was harsh and criticised the overall officiating.
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca praised his team’s composure amid a hostile atmosphere at Anfield. The victory maintained City’s perfect league record after six matches.
The match also attracted attention following the recent verdict concerning Manchester City’s alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations. The club has appealed the findings and continues to deny wrongdoing.
