According to official information, days of torrential rain caused rivers to burst their banks across the area. As a result, mud, rocks, and uprooted trees rushed down a mountainside and buried about 34 houses in Pasir Langu village. The damage was extensive, and access roads were badly affected. Meanwhile, rescue teams struggled to reach several spots due to unstable ground conditions.

Abdul Muhari, spokesperson of the National Disaster Management Agency, said rescuers were searching for 82 residents feared trapped under mud and debris. He also said that 24 people managed to escape the disaster. Later, recovery teams pulled out eight bodies from the worst hit hamlet of Pasir Kuning. The Indonesian landslide destroyed homes and left families waiting anxiously for news of missing relatives.

Television footage showed workers and villagers digging desperately through thick layers of brown mud. Green terraced rice fields turned into muddy stretches after the landslide covered the area with soil, rocks, and fallen trees. However, rescue work remained slow due to continuing rain and unstable soil.

“Unstable soil and heavy rain continue to complicate search and rescue operations,” said Teten Ali Mungku Engkun, head of West Java’s Disaster Management Office. He added that local authorities quickly assessed the damage and deployed emergency response teams soon after the landslide. Later, officials evacuated families living within 100 meters of the landslide zone due to fears of further slope failures.

Authorities also urged people living in landslide prone areas to stay alert. They asked residents to evacuate immediately if they hear rumbling sounds, notice soil movement, or feel conditions are unsafe. Meanwhile, rescue teams continued searching the affected zone as concerns remained high over the number of people still missing after the Indonesian landslide.
