Cyberabad Police Book 296 Drunk Drivers In Weekend Crackdown

Hyderabad, Jan. 25: As part of a special weekend enforcement drive, Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 296 motorists for drunk driving, triggering renewed warnings about strict legal consequences for offenders.

The crackdown comes amid rising concerns over road safety and alcohol-related accidents in the city.

Officials said two-wheeler riders accounted for the majority of the violations, followed by car drivers, auto-rickshaw drivers, and one heavy vehicle operator.

Many of those caught were found with alcohol levels far above the permissible limit, raising serious safety concerns.

According to police, most offenders had Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml.

A significant number recorded BAC levels exceeding 200 mg/100 ml, while some were detected with extremely high alcohol levels of up to 550 mg/100 ml, indicating severe intoxication.

All the accused will be produced before the Court.

Cyberabad Police issued a strong warning that drunk driving is not a minor offence and can have fatal consequences.

Officials said any person who drives under the influence of alcohol and causes a fatal accident will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The offence attracts a maximum punishment of ten years’ imprisonment along with a fine.

Sharing enforcement data, police said that between January 19 and January 24, 2026, courts disposed of 215 drunk driving cases.

While a small number of offenders were sentenced to both fine and jail, others were ordered to perform social service in addition to paying fines, and the majority were penalised with fines alone.

Cyberabad Traffic Police urged citizens to act responsibly and reminded motorists that a single reckless decision can cost innocent lives, stressing that enforcement drives will continue.
