According to the information available, approval has already been given to appoint Sunetra Pawar as the new Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Her oath taking ceremony will take place at Raj Bhavan at 5 pm today. However, this move will require her to resign from her current Rajya Sabha membership. As a result, the Rajya Sabha seat held by Sunetra Pawar will fall vacant soon.

Meanwhile, the Nationalist Congress Party is preparing to nominate Sunetra Pawar’s eldest son, Parth Pawar, to the Rajya Sabha. This nomination will follow her resignation from the Upper House. If this plan goes ahead, it will mark Parth Pawar’s official entry into parliamentary politics. Therefore, the Sunetra Pawar Rajya Sabha exit is being closely watched within political circles across the state.

After taking oath as Deputy Chief Minister, Sunetra Pawar will need to get elected either to the Legislative Assembly or the Legislative Council within six months. She is likely to contest from the Baramati Assembly seat. The seat is currently represented by her husband Ajit Pawar. Later, party leaders are expected to decide the timing and mode of her electoral entry.

Sunetra Pawar was born on October 18, 1963, in Dharashiv district, formerly known as Osmanabad, in Maharashtra. She married Ajit Pawar in 1985. The couple has two sons, Parth Pawar and Jai Pawar. At present, she is a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament from the NCP and was elected in June 2024. Earlier, she contested the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Baramati constituency against her sister in law Supriya Sule. Although she lost that election, the party recognized her as a strong leader.
