- Visakhapatnam Metro decision shared during Chandrababu Delhi visit
Hyderabad: The Centre has approved the construction of the Visakhapatnam Metro, giving a major push to urban transport plans in Andhra Pradesh. Union Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal informed Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu about the decision during his visit to Delhi.
According to the provided input, the Union minister personally conveyed the approval to the Chief Minister. Chandrababu Naidu later revealed these details during a meeting held on Tuesday. The approval came after the Centre examined proposals submitted earlier by the state government for metro projects.
Meanwhile, the state government had sent proposals for the construction of metro rail projects in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada. After reviewing these submissions, the Centre decided to grant permission first for the Visakhapatnam Metro. The decision marks the first clearance among the proposed metro projects from Andhra Pradesh.
Also, the approval highlights the Centre’s response to the state’s request for improved urban transport infrastructure. The Visakhapatnam Metro project had been under consideration following the submission of detailed proposals by the state. After examination, the Centre issued the green signal for Vizag, while no further details were shared about the Vijayawada proposal.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to Delhi has remained busy. He has been holding a series of meetings with senior Union ministers. During this visit, he has already participated in separate meetings with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Later, it was reported that the Chief Minister discussed various projects proposed for the state during these meetings. He also explained the progress related to the Polavaram project and the construction of the capital Amaravati to the Centre. These discussions formed a key part of his Delhi schedule.
It is known that Chandrababu Naidu left for Delhi from Gannavaram Airport on Monday evening. The visit was planned specifically to meet Union ministers and present the state’s requirements. Therefore, the Centre’s approval for the Visakhapatnam Metro stands out as a significant outcome of the visit.
The decision is expected to shape future infrastructure planning in Visakhapatnam. For now, the Centre has formally cleared the Visakhapatnam Metro, as confirmed during the Chief Minister’s meetings in Delhi.
